Stephen is a native son of Kingston, Jamaica. He was born on November 24th to parents Helen and Dolman Murphy. Stephen comes from a family of very talented musicians. His mom is a very talented singer and his father is an accomplished musician and music teacher. With this background, it guided Stephen to choose the musical path of being a drummer/producer. Stephen grew up in the church and was always a keen participant in the music ministry. That is where he learnt his self-taught skill of playing the drums. His natural talent is well known by those in the music circle and this led to him working with a wide range of musicians and producers. Stephen’s skills also include songwriting, music composition and mixing. He started his production company, Murphy Productions in 2006, and has achieved quite a lot of credit for his musical ability. In recent time, he has worked on albums for various genres of artists and musicians including his first love, gospel. Stephen attributes his talent and versatility in the studio to his love for God, and this is evident in the quality of work he has produced. His main objective is to produce music that will lift people’s consciousness to the omnipresent, omnipotent one, who is the only source of our existence. He plans to expand his business by threefold, God willing, in 2009 and already the signs of this blessing are already evident. Troy Genius, artist/producer, who is the brother of well known dancehall artist, Red Rat, gave Stephen the opportunity of being the first producer he voiced for, since he gave up his very successful secular career to become a gospel artist. The well known song, Dance, which is currently on the Murphy Production my-space page, has given Troy Genius a lot of recognition as his debut song as a gospel artist and is one of the most popular songs right now in Jamaica and internationally. Stephen is currently the drummer for Troy Genius and will be touring with him in the near future. Stephen would like to thank God for giving him the talent and the drive to achieve his musical dreams. He would like to thank his family and friends for their support, the artists and musicians who have given him the opportunity to work with them and Nigel Lewis for the opportunity to observe during his studio sessions which helped him to learn more about getting the best out of his music production.
